The eastbound, or mauka bound, lane of the Daniel K. Inouye Highway is close because of a traffic accident located about one-quarter-mile east of the highway’s intersection with Mamalahoa Highway, also known as Highway 190, in South Kohala, according to the Hawaii County Police Department.

Eastbound traffic is being detoured via Old Saddle Road, according to police. The westbound lane of the Daniel K. Inouye Highway remains open.

Police are asking that motorists to avoid the area, if possible, and to proceed with caution if traveling near the area because emergency crews are on scene. Mauka traffic is being re-routed through the Old Saddle road. The makai bound lane is open on the Daniel K. Inouye Highway.
